The hotel was built in 1909 and is famous for inspiring Stephen King’s novel, The Shining. The most notable paranormal incident reported in the hotel occurred in room 217, where guests have reported hearing footsteps, strange noises, and feeling a presence on their beds. The design also includes the inscriptions: “THE STANLEY” – the name of the coin and “2023″ – the year of issue. The obverse of the coin features the Effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen, “COOK ISLANDS” – the issuing country and “10 DOLLARS” – the face value.
