The masterpieces of art kept in the Vatican Museum are celebrated works of famous masters of painting and sculpture of the Renaissance mainly. Many antique statues discovered in that period are included to the collection too as the standards for the painters and sculptors of the Renaissance era. One of such statues is the white marble Apollo of the Belvedere, found in Italy in the late XV century. The beautiful statue now is kept at the Museum of Vatican in Rome. The silver 5-dollar coin of the unusual shape bears the relief image of Apollo on its reverse. The ancient Greek god wears gilded cloak, the spare space beside him is decorated with the line of blue crystals. The name of the masterpiece in Italian and the name of the whole series – Vatican Art – are indicated on the reverse too.
