The State of Franklin was a territory in western North Carolina that the state ceded to the federal government as part of an effort to pay off debts incurred in the Revolutionary War. The state petitioned Congress for admission to the union, but only seven states supported its admission. Two-thirds of the thirteen would have had to vote to admit it under the Articles of Confederation. This coin honors this unique history. This piece is a product of the Mayer Mint in Germany. This release is part of a mintage of 25,000 pieces. This coin was struck from 1 oz of. The coin was struck in ultra high Relief. This coin is part of the Lost States of America Series. This coin features the State of Franklin, which was situated in what is today eastern Tennessee. The coin will arrive in GEM Proof condition and comes in a protective pouch. Exquisite Natural Scenery Design by Joel Iskowitz. Obverse: Both faces of this coin bear designs by the internationally renowned artist Joel Iskowitz, a member of the U. Reverse: On the reverse is a left-side portrait of Ben Franklin, for whom the lost state was named. Next to his effigy is the date in which the state was formed, 1784. ” Along the rim are inscriptions of the figure’s name, “BEN FRANKLIN, ” and the state that was named for him, “STATE OF FRANKLIN.
