2017 $5 Cook Islands Remembrance Poppy. 999 Silver CoinRed remembrance poppies are frequently displayed in Anglo-Saxon culture to commemorate fallen soldiers and service personnel. The custom originated in 1921 after American humanitarian Moina Michael lobbied to have the poppy officially recognized as the symbol of remembrance for veterans.
