Canaletto’s technique had the traditional Venetian hallmarks of luminous light and glowing color, to which he added a Dutch-influenced attention to clear and accurate detail. An effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is represented on the obverse of the silver coin. There are also the inscriptions indicating the name of the Queen, the coin’s face value and the name of the issuing country. Shown on the reverse of the coin is the reproduction of the picture Return of the Bucentoro to the Molo on Ascension Day, showing traditional Venetian ceremony from a series of 14 views of the Grand Canal painted by Canaletto and engraved by Antonio Visentini.
